Drydocks World wins EPC for world’s largest FLNG off Mexico

Dubai-based Drydocks World confirmed on Monday that it has secured an EPC contract from Amigo LNG to construct the world’s largest FLNG liquefaction facility off the coast of Mexico.

The project involves converting two LNG carriers into floating storage units and building two new FLNG barges at Drydocks World’s Dubai yard. Once operational in late 2028, the facility will have a liquefaction capacity of more than 4.2 million tonnes per year (tpy), making it the largest FLNG development globally.

Amigo LNG is a joint venture between Epcilon LNG from Texas and LNG Alliance from Singapore. Located off Guaymas, in the state of Sonora, the complex will be supplied with natural gas from the US Permian Basin and serve export markets in Asia and Latin America. Its Pacific coast location offers shorter shipping routes to Asia than US Gulf terminals, cutting costs and emissions.

“This contract represents a major milestone for Drydocks World and Dubai. With our expertise in complex offshore conversions and large-scale new builds, we are setting new global benchmarks for floating LNG solutions,” said Drydocks World CEO Rado Antolovic.

The EPC works will follow a modular construction plan, which allows for quality control, integration and pre-commissioning in a controlled environment, and reduces environmental impact.

“By partnering with Drydocks World on the world’s largest FLNG facility, we are securing best-in-class quality. We are also harnessing the key advantages of FLNG solutions — from faster project schedules to rigorous testing and seamless pre-commissioning,” said LNG Alliance CEO Muthu Chezhian.

In parallel, LNG Alliance announced on Monday that it has signed a long-term offtake agreement with global trading and financial group Macquarie for 600,000 tpy over 15 years. Deliveries are expected to commence upon the launch of commercial operations at Amigo LNG in 2028.
